orduckhunter: Sorry about the bad luck. I know how that goes. I've been there and done that a few times while bear hunting. Bear hunting can be extremely fickle. Sometimes it's simple and the next you can't get a bear within bow or gun range no matter how hard you try. Oh well, I suppose that's what keeps us coming back for more year after year. Better luck next time and thanks for the update. Take care and Good Hunting! Best Afield, Steve

duck, I know the feeling. Opening day for Pa bear season last yr left us with 6in of snow on the ground and is snowed all day long into the next. Now with the season only being 3 days long, getting a bear spotted was hard, and the Pocono's made it even harder. Aint as young as I used to be. LOL

ORIGINAL: tinawar6@aol.com mneptune; Have you ever hunted there? I know its high fence..... My future son in-law talked me in to it, so off we go! Haven't been there personally but I have talked with several that have, they have even done a few tv hunting shows from there. I know it is high-fence but they also have a lot of property so you are not going to be shooting fish in a barrel sort to speak. In other words it is not a sure thing. They have all sorts of exotics but they are pretty famous for their Axis deer, they are some of the finest eating as well. They do have several trophy's on the property with real nice racks, something to consider if you need some wall decoration, the capes are also very beautiful. I'm looking forward to hearing how the trip works out for you. Please bring a camera as well so we can see some pictures.

I have seen Ralph and Vickie from what used to be "The Archers Choice" but now just "The Choice" hunt there several times on tv and they do have one hell of an impressive Axis herd there. I have shot and ate axis before and it is some of the leanest venison I have ever eaten. Real deep red meat. Good luck on your hunt Tina, send us some pic's. When are you due to hunt down there?

just an update - since my bear hunt is over (took my vacation a couple of weeks ago), I talked to a buddy who is still over there: on monday, three bears were killed - 2 blacks and 1 blond. One of the blacks was estimated at 350-400# and the skull measures around 20" I knew I should have gone later - but couldn't work it out!
