Bear hunting in Maine? - Tuesday, November 24, 2009 3:48 PM ( #1 )
My wife and I are thinking about going to Maine next year to bear hunt and look at the fall colors. Any suggestion on a place to hunt? I would be happy with a baited site and hunt on my own. I don't need a outfitter and my wife will not be hunting. Thanks for any help.

Alot of the land up there is leased by outfitters for bear season, whether it be for the bait season or hounds. There are a couple of pretty reasonable outfitters I would suggest if you want to go that route. First off would be Spruce Mountain, www.sprucemtn.com

That is where I hunted this last yr. Very good people and the guides are top notch. They will do whatever they can to get you on bears. The food is excellent and you will never go hungry. On Fri night, Steve the owner of the guide service cooks lobster for whoever wants them. We did the special, 3-2lb tails for 20 bucks. He cooked 48 of them on Fri night. All you pay for on Fri are the lobsters. All other meals are provided.

The other one is www.tomahmountain.com I have heard alot of good things about these folks also. Both places run about 1600 for the weeks hunt. Spruce Mountain does an actual 6 day hunt, where the others up there do a 5 day. Lots of fishing spots avail also up there.

I am going back the third week of Sept. this coming yr and going to a combo bait and hound hunt. Best of both worlds. Good luck car..

Thanks for the info. I was thinking more along the line of just paying for a active bait site and I'll take care of the rest but, I will listen to what everyone has to say.
