Bare fingers shooters

I shoot bare fingers (no tabs or gloves) with Hoyt 38 Pro, no peep, just a HHA OSL 5000 sight and a whisker biscuit rest. My Dad is the only other guy I know that shoots this way. Is there anybody else out there that still keeps it simple but still a little modern like us or are we relics?

dodgeman_29: The only time I have ever shot my bow at an animal with bare fingers is when I killed my first black bear in Saskatchewan back in '98, but that is only because I dropped my shooting tab out of the stand! I'll admit it, shooting with bare fingers hurts! "Relics" or not, you and your Dad have my respect! Take care and Good Hunting! Best Afield, Steve

Steve, It's nice to hear there are still some fingers shooters out there, bare fingers or tabs. I've shot this way for 27 years. I still catch a lot of heck from other guys about not going to a release. I tell them, I may have to practice a little more but I've never left my fingers at home, lost them or not known when they were gonna "go off". As far as the pain goes, you have break your fingers in a little at a time untiil you get calluses. After that it's a piece of cake, just one less thing to worry about in the tree. Hope this season is going well for you. dodgeman_29

You guys are tougher than I am. Back when I did shoot bare bow, i used the fingers. I've went on to release and sights since then. That is one of the many things I love about archery. There are so many different ways to get the same results- meat in the freezer.

dodgeman_29: Sorry to disappoint you, bud, but I went over to the Dark Side two years ago and started shooting with a release and sights. I'm no longer using The Force. LOL! Take care and Good Hunting! Best Afield, Steve

I started my bowhunting "career" shooting with gloves & tabs. When I got my Mathews I switched to releases. I still feel guilty about that!! I still use a tab with my recurve though!!!

It's like Kraig said, it's about meat in the freezer. If a guy can make a clean, killing shot it doesn't matter what he uses to let go of the string.
