Bad Bow Shot

This deer showed up on one of my cams. I know we all make bad shots, but this one is just a bit far back and alot high and on a deer that does not weigh 50lbs soaking wet. Looking at the shot angle and the penetration, it looks to be a long shot also. I just don't know about some hunters.

You can actually see a big infectious puss pocket on the offside in this pic. If I see her, I will put her down.

I sat tonight and saw 11 deer, all bald. Last week I should have been in the stand. Got pics of small bucks chasing does in the daytime. With all of the does I saw tonight, I would have bet that a buck would have come out but not a horn to be seen. Maybe tomorrow.

Man that's a shame. Imagine the pain that thing is in. I hate to see that. You'd definitely do right by putting her down.
Good luck, be safe and shoot straight

"HE" was at my other feeder also. This irritates me even more now knowing someone shot this little button buck. What a waste of an animal.

One more closer up. You can see just how bad the shot is and the little buttons on his head. Just furious at this.

Gary, It looks like, whoever, shot him missed judged the yardage and the arrow hit to high. Could have been a pretty good quartering away shot just pulled the shot. Not trying to make excuses for whoever, but that's what I think happened. Also it could have been getting dark and just misses judged the deer. Don't know but it still sucks that he's walking with that thing in his back.

That's also my take on it! It may work it's way out and heal up because it can't be in him very far or it would have paralyzed him. Let's hope I'm right because I hate seeing pictures like this. Unfortunately, there are more and more people that are wounding animals out there than we probably have any idea!

I just went back and noticed that black&white picture is dated almost two weeks after the color ones and he still looks healthy. I think he might make it if that arrow works itself out or maybe it will rust off due to body chemicals attacking the broadhead metal. Let's hope it is only in the skin and meat, rather than imbedded in bone and I think that might be the case!

I know we have all made bad shots in our day, but the thing that really irritates me is just how small this deer is. When you look at the length of arrow sticking out, even if it was one shot with an overdraw, the arrow is half it's body length. That deer can't weigh 50lbs soaking wet. I do admit, the angle of the shot would have been a good one, had it been lower, but the size man. If ya looked close, it probably still has milk dripping form his chin. JMO on my land. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr This arrow has been in this deer for 2 weeks according to the dates on my pic's so far.

I know what you mean as far as the size of the deer! I don't know how many bucks in the 130"-140" class that I passed on over the years waiting for a "good" one when I hunted the south Texas brush country with my Dad. Then to see a small one like that shot at is pretty damn disgusting, especially with the number of deer down there!!! Grrrrrrrr is right!!!

Ive seen that before. I'd be willing to bet that the arrow is embedded into the backbone plate that is located right under the backstrap. I have a hunting partner that had a streak of shots that turned out like that. 3 to be exact. We were able to retreive 2 of them but it took tactics that I can't talk about on an unsecured line. Put it down if you get the chance. Call the local warden, I'm sure he will give you permission to dispatch it with a rifle, if out of season. I also know of hunters that shot deer with broadheads stuck in that plate that were completely healed over. Big sist around it but healed up.

Poor Fella! I hope you can take care of him soon. Not sure about eating any part of him with that infection. An infection on the spine like that could spread. Just sayin...
Love playing that string music and sending a Muzzy flying!

I will have to see what the wardens have to say about it. It is buck only season here right now and we can't take any does until the 4th of Jan for the BP season. The guys counts as a doe since his buttons have not broke the skin. Hopefully they let me dispatch him respectfully. Hate to see him suffering.

I would think he'll say kill it. And it shouldn't cost you a tag.

Looks like someone misjudged the shot, but if it's "bucks only," why take the shot? Keep us updated, Gary.

The first date on the pic's was actually the last day you could shoot does until the BP season starts the 4th of Jan.
