BBD maybe

Last nite I sat for the first time this year. Spent all day walking the new ranches [8 miles} before I found a nice pine to climb up in on the edge of a hay feild. Sat till just dark and out comes 3 4x4 whitetails and behind them was a spike bull elk. He must have been confused. All of the deer jumped the fence and came within 30 yds of my tree. The elk didn't want to jump the fence and started trotting back and forth looking for an easy place to cross. In the process he caught my scent and got all fuzzed up. The bucks seen that and went for the edge of the feild. 25 yds away from me. The elk ran off and the deer started feeding on the edge, alittle nervously. One of them was one of the biggest whitetails I've seen here and would be the biggest I've shot with the bow. So I shot. Wasn't a shot to brag about. I was back a bit. So I decided to let it sit over nite and hope it didn't spoil or get eaten by the many yotes out there. Fill ya in later. I'm out the door.

Go get him deadeye! You did well to let him have the rest of the night. Good luck and show us the pix!

Sorry to hear that deadeye. It does happen though. Last year I shot a doe, and she ran off spraying blood. I found my arrow bent and covered in blood. Tracked her for about 300yds and than the blood just stopped. Nothing! Went and got my friend and looked over the area with a fine tooth comb and never found her. I guess the cards weren't in my favor that day. Don't give up and hitt'em hard next time. Season starts here tomorrow so I'm looking to try and take my first velvet buck.

Hate to hear that buddy! I know you fell sick about it. I felt the same way when I could not find my caribou a few years ago. Better luck later in the season!

Thanx for the support guys. I just can't figger what happened. I've never lost a trail that fast. Actually never really had a trail. Lost blood within 60 yds. I watched it run farther than that.

Second day out. 2 does and a fawn came out. Which was perfect cuz I have 2 doe tags to fill. I was just starting to draw back when the wind switched and the warning flags went up. Oh well, maybe next time.

Went out with skeeter and the shotgun on a bird hunt/scouting trip today. Surprisingly no birds. They were all over when I had the bow. Tipical. Anyway I was looking for a water hole that the deer and elk use in the area. Finally found a small creek that travels above ground for awhile then below ground for awhile. It comes to the surface about 4 times in the length of 3/4 mile. Each spot looked like a good spot for a stand or blind. There were elk rubs all along the creek bottom and the ridge above. Plus there were 5 or 6 wallows in the creek. The water is about 1 mile from my stand in the hay field. When I found the water I also found my buck. He looked alittle skinnier than I remembered. He was a perfect skeleton but his front legs were drug off 20' or so. He's almost a 5x5 with a 15" spread. http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z180/deadeyerik/100_1499.jpg

Nice rack! Glad you finally found him. Friend of mine's son did something similar. Hit a good buck and they both tracked it as long as they could. Went back out the next morning and finally found the deer...or what the 'yotes left! Antlers were the only thing salvageable. Glad them things haven't figured out how to eat antlers.. yet...

You may have to change your name on here now bud. Get rid of the "dead" in front of the eye. LMAO!!!! Just kidding with you man. We have all been in your shoes at one time or another and feel your pain. Good luck with your future hunts and we know you will redeem yourself soon.

Since you stated it was the biggest you have seen and shot at with the bow, how about "Buckfever in the deadeyerik"? LMAO................. Been there done that man. Last yr I could not draw my bow on a big one. Had the fever something awful. LOL I was in amazement that a deer like that was on "MY" property at all. shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiivvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr and shake bro.

Glad you finally found your deer. It is a shame it was eaten but hey at least you found it. It's amasing that he ran that far and never left a good blood trail to follow. Sounds like you find some good spots. So keep at it and hope you get a second chace!

Not buck fever. He wasn't that big.I have seen bigger just not harvested. They are ussually smarter than me. I have 2 on the wall that are 130 and 160" range. I shot them with the rifle. The 130"er gave me fever Like I never had before. I had to watch him for 20 min. The 160" didn't bother me abit. Seen him and shot. No time to think about it. I think the biggest factor contributing to the bad shot was bad body positioning. I wasn't in a comfy stand. I just climbed up in a tree that I found and was sorta scrunched up when I shot.
