Any bear hunting plans for this year? - Saturday, May 22, 2010 5:21 AM ( #1 )
Ok everyone. I'll start this thread off.

If I don't draw a moose tag that I've app for in NH, Vermont and Maine my wife and  I plan on bear hunting in Maine on the eastern seaboard. I was working on a swap in New Brunswick at the same time but, I haven't heard anything back for several weeks from the guy. So I don't think it will pan out. This will be my wife first trip bear hunting. lol she is just a little worried about being in the bear woods. Especially coming out of the woods in the dark. I want her to film the hunt. We plan on sight-seeing during the day and hunting in the evening.

One other note. My wife in retiring after 30 years of teaching school. She is looking forward to seeing the New England states in late September. She has 5 day left to work!
I on the other hand have less than 3 years to go.

Happy bear hunting,
car

Your wife has been dealing with bratty kids for 30 years!  What in the world would scare her about being in the bear woods in the dark after doing that 30 year Tour of Duty!?!  LOL!

Best of luck to both of you on your bear hunt!

Take care and Good Hunting!

Best Afield,

That's for sure Steve!  Hey Car, I can't remember if you're a NAHC member or not, but there is a guy up in Maine that owns thousands of acres and lets members bear hunt all of it for free!   He also has some guys that do outfitting that will set baits out for you for a fee or do the whole outfitting thing for you if you want to go that route.  You may want to look into that in the Maine Forum if you're a member!

Hi Topgun 3006. Yes I'm a member of NAHC, life member that is. I did contact the guy up in Maine however the guy that did my bear skull, hunts with a guy that charges $100 a day on private ground and my friends have filled there tags every time. Most in two or three days of hunting. Since the hunting land is on the coast we thought it would make a nice hunting/sight seeing trip. I was just getting a little greedy about getting in two bear hunts while up there.

We bought some land at the end of last year. I'm putting my car wash up for sale here in a few weeks. As soon as we sell it we will be looking at getting our pole barn built so we can move some of the things that we want to keep when we go out. As far as the house, it will be 2  years. Our daughter has at least 1 1/2 years to go maybe 2 before she is done with college. as soon as she has a job we are gone lol.

Bear hunting in the Blue Hill area.

I am going to go after the big ol Minnesota Black bear. Same spot Same stand Same bait. Do any of you guys hunt the same area every year?? A couple of weeks ago a bear was shot in the town of Newfolden Minnesota. Sounded like she was a nusiance bear somewhere and was transplanted by Thief Lake some 30 miles away and she ended up getting into town and being destroyed. Poor Bear

Only plans I have will be for my home state of NY.  Outside chance of trekking up to the Adirondack Park, but will be hunting across the Hudson from me in Greene (my county isn't open for bear....yet...) or Ulster Counties.

Hey Tina how are you doing? I had emailed you some time back and I didn't hear back :(

I see the weather is in the 60s &70s during the day in BC. I think there is still snow on the ground. Hope you and your family have a great time.

Just remember this, if you have a great time bear hunting with Eric, I'm the one that sent you. On the other hand if you have a bad time hunting with Eric, blame it on the weather.

Don't forget, I saw 30 plus bears the week I was there.

Don' forget to bring a wash towel and good bug spray. Tell Eric I said hi and remind him I shoot a Rem 7mm mag.
One shot
285 yards
bear went 10 yards
I'm sure he will have something not nice to say about Rem 7mm mag.

Have fun,
Ron

It sure does!  It's been over a year already since I shared that camp with Steve and Monty up in Manitoba, yet it seems like it was only a week or two ago!!!
