Alligator Gar? - Wednesday, December 22, 2010 4:11 PM ( #1 )
Have any of you guys tried bowfishing for alligator gar? I saw a show on it the other day and it looks pretty awesome. They look like some mean hombres to tangle with.
Good luck, be safe and shoot straight

We do it all of the time down here man. I think the biggest for Tx is over 200lbs.

I know that people are pushing pretty hard now to try to protect em. It might be just as fun to catch them on a rod and reel anyway I guess. I think I'll put this one on my "to do" list in the next few years, hopefully sooner than later. Have you got one Gary?

None of them toothy critters but plenty of the Chinese "Steril" grass carp to 60 lbs though.

Those grass carp are one of the s.o.b.'s that are working their way up north here aren't they?

Not sure if they are the same ones or not, but when these were planted in the lakes around here to take care of the hydrilla (Absolute great Bass Habitat), they were suppose to have been steril. HA HA HA HA, Not in the least are they. WORSE THAN RABBITS!!!!!!!!!!

Ya know that transplanting bugs, animals, fish, etc. to take care of a problem really works doesn't it?? It always causes ten times the problems that you had before. The Japanese beetles are a good example up here. Our wildlife biologists are really on the ball. lol

I don't think I have ever heard of them releasing something that was supposed to be sterile that was actually sterile.

That was our question to them as well. If they were suppose to be, why are they multiplying like rabbits?

Re:Alligator Gar? - Wednesday, January 19, 2011 9:00 PM ( #15 )
I wrote down everything I want to hunt and fish for in my lifetime and in a priority order (even showed it to the wife if you can believe that). I save up the money to do one at a time. I might only be able to go one time but once is a lot better than never.  The only problem is the list keeps getting bigger and now, the moose hunt I went on  threw a little change in my plans. I still have to get back there to shoot a big s.o.b. bull but otherwise one chance will have to be good enough. lol
