A first for me - Saturday, October 31, 2009 6:50 PM ( #1 )
I went deer hunting back in my woods behind my house tonight. What was different is I took my wife's laptop with me. It was kinda cool checking out the hunting web sites while I was hunting. In a way I was setting more still with less head movement than what I normally do. It didn't bring me any more luck. All I saw was 2 doe :(

It was 80 here yesterday and 44 tonight. Still way to much corn on for my liking.

Anyone ever surf while hunting before?

Not really, car, but I've taken (and sent) a few fotos with my phone ... I'm not very technologically talented, and I don't have the "universal" access that some folks do, so I'm not likely to start doin' it very soon ...

Tho I can see where it'd be kinda OK, for a day sittin' in a blind or tower, waitin' for the critters to come by ... as long as it's warm enuf ... (our season here isn't likely to be that nice this year, since most of the nites are below 32 F and the days are sometimes scattered with rain/snow showers ... and a laptop doesn't werk too well when I'm tryin' to shoot roosters ...

If/when I do, prolly better turn the sound down, eh? Wouldn't wanna frighten the critters ...

I do remember once however, when BIL had a Bighorn Sheep (OIL) license, and it wuz so hot and dry the governor closed the season @ noon, and all I did wuz dit in the pickup doin' crossword puzzles and takin' pix of the turkeys that walked past me ... (wuzn't the season yet, at that point in the calendar, that year ... )

I know a lot of guys that take books, magazines, play video games, etc. in the tree stand. I've never heard of anyone taking a laptop. There's nothing wrong with it, to each their own. I just don't do that stuff. I like to take in what's going on around me even if I don't see deer. That's why I'm out in the woods. I caught a quick glimpse of a fisher the other night which I didn't know we had here in central WI. That was pretty cool. There's no way I would've saw it if I hadn't been paying attention. I guess that's just how I was taught to hunt.

This new age of gadgets and electronic stuff seems to fill up our gear bags.....The first time I get into a new stand I use my range finder to establish shooting distances at all possible spots I can think of......After sitting a while I usually start taking pictures of anthing from scenery to deer or even a partridge or squirrel with my digital camera....After shooting a deer I have even called my sons on the cell phone........I know sooner or later this fooling around on the stand will cost me a big buck....One of my hunting partners son missed his chance on a wall hanger because he was "texting"......

Good Luck everybody and don't forget extra batteries!

Only electronic gizmos in my pack are my rangefinder, camera and 2-way radio. If I am going to an area alone I will carry my cell phone just in case of emergency.
Love playing that string music and sending a Muzzy flying!

Same for me, cell and rangefinder. Radios are illegal in most places, even though they could save a person's life vs having no cell service..
