I put in a new plot just last week and planted some New Zealand clover with chicory mixed in it. I have another one ready to plant and I am undecided. I had brassicas in it over the winter and plowed it all under. Not sure on it yet, but I am considering alfalfa. One more spot I am putting corn in with some giant sunflowers on the edges. SURELY, one deer might find something it likes to eat!

I was told just yesterday by the lab that did my soil test that I should throw in some Okra with my seed mix. He was saying tha the has been working with some of the seed producers and biologists and have seen deer walk right past the other parts of the lots to get to the okra. Not sure about it but he was serious when he was telling me this. I was planing on New Zealand clover,Lab Lab and some Evolved Harvest seed for mine for this spring. Got some good 3.5 yr old 10's and some real good 2 yr old 8's that I want to see how they do in the next few yrs.

Gary,
that is one nice looking buck! I will bet he and his friends will really put on the feed bag in your plots. Let us see more pix as they come. That okra thing, I have never heard that. Course' when I get okra growing, it's hard to keep the people out of the plot!
Let me know how that works for you.

I planted turnips last fall and the deer ate every last one. I am going to try something different this year on a small open patch on my Uncles ground. Maybe some of that no till stuff.

Withh all the rain we are getting right now, the plots should grow really well. Here is another one of my deer from last yr. Grow baby, Grow. Gonna give both of these deer a couple of more yrs if they survive. These are local, free ranging deer that have made my place their home for the last few yrs.

Waiting to see what the cam's have on them for this spring. I know I have some little ones there already. Not seen any that have dropped yet though. We'll see what tomorrow brings. Got to refill the protein feeders and set one more other for them to keep them through fawn's and horn growth. I believe it's gonna be a good yr, just have to use restraint when they come strolling by during the bow season. Gonna be hard. LOL

Gary, Restraint is a good thing....in moderation!! If you have a trophy come by it is sure going to be hard to pass up. Looks like you have some nice stock growing on your spread. Martin

Gonna be a whole family of hats soon though. Got to get rid of them so the deer can come back in and get some of the good stuff.

Gary, I saw on another thread where you got your new hat collection started. Nice job! I am still wondering if you are gonna try that okra thing. Were you pulling my leg on that one? Kent

Are there any food plot experts out there? I live in a high plains desert, very dry. Are there any dry land seed mixtures out there?
